Munich-based climatetech company Phlair has unveiled Electra 01, its new direct air capture (DAC) plant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, according to an announcement on the company’s LinkedIn profile.
Scheduled to commence operations in 2025, Electra 01 will leverage Phlair’s patented Hydrolyzer technology to remove hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere annually.
The name ‘Electra’ was chosen to reflect the technology’s core principle: it operates solely on renewable electricity and an electrolyte, which is a common salt dissolved in water.
In a strategic partnership with Paebbl, a Stockholm-based startup specializing in carbon-negative construction materials, Phlair will convert the captured CO2 into a supplementary cementitious material (SCM).
This process not only ensures permanent storage of CO2 but also transforms it into a valuable resource for the construction industry, Phlair said.

Thanks to the innovative Hydrolyzer technology, the new plant is set to deliver carbon removal credits to prominent international clients like Frontier (representing Shopify and Stripe) and Milkywire (representing Klarna and WRLD Foundation).
Furthermore, Electra 01 has secured co-funding from the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) through a €2.5 million ($2.7 million) EIC accelerator grant.
This funding represents a significant milestone in the advancement and deployment of the Hydrolyzer technology.
Phlair remains committed to enabling a carbon-negative future, and Electra 01 marks a pivotal step towards achieving this vision.
