Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) has made a fourth consecutive transaction with CO2 removal platform CUR8, expanding its portfolio of high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits.
PIC will use the carbon removals from this latest transaction to address the residual operational emissions from its 2025 Scope 1 and Scope 2 domains, as well as its business travel, in line with the Oxford Offsetting Principles.
London-based PIC operates as a specialist insurer of defined benefit pension schemes and is a member of the UN Net Zero Asset Owner Alliance. Its recent transaction with CUR8 makes part of the company’s proactive, science-aligned strategy for reaching net zero goals.
As part of the partnership, CUR8 has leveraged its carbon scientist team and proprietary AI models to put together a CDR portfolio matched with the needs of PIC. The portfolio includes four projects ranging across different carbon removal pathways.
One of the selected projects is by direct air capture leader 1PointFive, who is working on delivering the world’s first plant capable of reaching megatonne scale.
The portfolio will also include CDR credits from a project by UK-based O.C.O Technology Ltd. The credits will be generated through operations that will include the capture of biogenic CO2 from a wide variety of waste streams, which will then be mineralized to produce carbon aggregates for buildings.
On the nature-based side, the portfolio features the Kukumuty CO2 removal project, centered around creating climate-resilient agroecosystems and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Additionally, PIC will also gain access to an Indian biochar project developed by Carboneers, which is expected to deliver CDR credits, as well as strong social and community co-benefits.
PIC Head of Sustainability Cleo Fitzsimons stated, “PIC is delighted to continue its partnership with CUR8 to help reach our climate commitments. We are continuing to purchase high-quality carbon removal credits to support neutralizing our operational emissions while aligning to future compliance markets in support of our 2050 net zero target.”
