A unique collaboration between sustainable building innovator Paebbl and premium concrete specialist Design & Beton has brought carbon-negative construction to the heart of Paris’ luxury retail scene.
The new MARC-ANTOINE BARROIS boutique at 14 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré features a striking interior made with a specially formulated micro-cement that permanently stores captured carbon dioxide.
Spanning just 30 square meters (323 sq ft), the boutique’s floor may be small in size, but it makes a bold statement.
The finish—a refined, polished surface—was developed using a custom blend from Australe Concrete, incorporating Paebbl’s carbon-sequestering material. The result aligns perfectly with Barrois’s design ethos, which prioritizes timeless elegance and premium materials across all its retail spaces.
A marriage of style and sustainability
After testing a variety of alternatives, from resin-based terrazzo to lime composites, the project team arrived at a formula that met strict aesthetic and environmental criteria.
The tailored cement mix strikes a balance between color depth, texture, and surface gloss, while delivering a measurable climate benefit: a net-negative carbon footprint underfoot.
Paebbl’s technology centers on a mineralization process that traps CO2 in solid form, replacing a portion of traditional cement, which is typically a major carbon emitter. By integrating this innovative material into the store’s micro-cement flooring, the project exemplifies how high-end design can serve as a vehicle for climate-conscious construction.

This Paris installation not only reflects the boutique’s signature refinement but also points toward a future where even the most luxurious spaces help store carbon, rather than emit it.
“From the very first samples we knew Paebbl could give us a seamless surface that behaves like classic polished concrete yet stores carbon for good,” says Architect Antoine Bouillot.
