The 2023 OpenAir Carbon Removal Challenge was launched and started accepting applications from student teams in October 2022. It is a worldwide challenge for students to create new carbon removal processes, approaches and prototypes that take away CO2 from air, water or land.

Students received guidance from researchers and industry experts to develop their creative solutions that help curb the climate crisis. Up to 10 approaches will now be presented as finalists at the in-person event at New York University.
