OnStream CO2, a company developing carbon storage projects in southern Louisiana, has secured a $26 million grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to advance its GeoDura Carbon Storage Hub.
This offshore hub, located near Cameron Parish, is designed to store over 250 million metric tons of CO2. The grant will support geological assessments, permitting, and community engagement for the project, which aims to begin operations in 2028.
In addition to the DOE grant, OnStream has formed a joint venture with Enbridge, a major North American midstream company.
Enbridge will hold a 45% stake in OnStream and serve as its preferred CO2 transportation provider.
This partnership leverages Enbridge’s extensive transportation expertise to enhance OnStream’s ability to deliver current and future CO2 projects in southern Louisiana.

“By working in close collaboration with local, state, and federal officials and community members, the OnStream CO2 partnership has established a CCS project model that benefits industry and the environment.”
The GeoDura project has already made significant progress, including obtaining necessary permits, initiating well-site preparation, and finalizing the Class VI permit.
The company is actively engaged in commercial negotiations with industrial customers in the region to provide CCS solutions.
This collaboration between OnStream and Enbridge, along with the DOE’s support, underscores the growing importance of carbon capture and storage in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for Louisiana to become a leading hub for CCS technology.
