Octavia Carbon, a direct air capture (DAC) innovator in the Global South, announced that it has secured a major offtake agreement facilitated by the Carbonfuture marketplace.

As detailed in the announcement, the offtake agreement is set to last 10 years, during which Octavia Carbon will deliver kiloton scale of high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR).

For the Kenya-based company, this deal further grows its list of more than 20 corporate clients that have chosen to partner with it and support its operations.

This market momentum will enable the scale-up of Octavia’s DAC project in Kenya, driving progress on the company’s journey of advancing this technology in Africa.

Commenting on this update, Octavia Carbon founder and CEO Martin Freimüller shared, “We’re excited to close our first kiloton-scale CDR purchase, as facilitated by our friends at Carbonfuture. Together we’re taking Kenyan DAC to the next level and developing the world’s highest-integrity carbon credits.”

Towards the end of 2025, Octavia unveiled its landmark project called Hummingbird, expected to launch operations with a CDR capacity of 250 metric tons per year, with plans to up this volume to 1,000 tons on an annual basis.

Strategically positioned in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, a region abundant in geological storage locations, Octavia Carbon’s project will safely deposit the CO2 captured through its DAC systems in underground storage sites with the help of carbon mineralization company Cella.

Last year, Octavia made headlines by becoming the second-ever company to receive the highest rating from leading rating agency BeZero. At that time, its carbon credits were rated as ‘Ae,’ paired with a stellar AAA standalone carbon rating.

Carbonfuture recognized Octavia’s game-changing potential in Kenya, highlighting its independent digital monitoring, verification, and reporting (dMRV) system, which boosts the transparency of DAC technology and lowers the operational costs.

Freimüller explained, “DAC, backed by the real-time dMRV we are co-developing with Carbonfuture, will set the standard for what compliance-grade carbon removal looks like. This deal is great validation of that model, showing there is real demand for DAC that pushes the boundaries on quality while investing in our local communities in Kenya as equal partners in addressing climate change.”

Octavia intends to release further details on this deal in collaboration with Carbonfuture and the end buyer in 2026.
