Kenya-based direct air capture (DAC) company Octavia Carbon announced that it has secured a new offtake agreement, facilitated by Carbon Direct.

With this support, the company will continue advancing on its operations in this Global South country, focusing efforts on scaling DAC technology in this region.

Currently, Octavia Carbon is working on its Hummingbird pilot DAC project, strategically positioned in the Kenyan Rift Valley, an area known for its abundance of geological storage sites.

In this location, the DAC company is capturing atmospheric CO2 emissions that then get deposited into safe underground storage through a partnership with carbon mineralization company Cella.

As shared in a recent Octavia Carbon publication, since October 2025, the company’s Gen 2 pilot has been running 24 hours a day, five days a week, helping unlock higher CO2 capture rates, and switching on a cryogenic tank for the first time that will enable the carbon dioxide to be stored in liquid form.

Commenting on the newly secured offtake agreement, Octavia Carbon shared that this move reflects the growing confidence in the company’s approach, as well as in the development of world-class climate infrastructure locally.

“Offtake agreements translate climate ambition into deployable infrastructure, providing the demand certainty needed to unlock financing, expand capacity, and deliver high-integrity carbon removal at meaningful scale,” the announcement said.

As a firm set on a mission of scaling carbon management through science, Carbon Direct is working on raising standards and reducing delivery risk across the durable carbon removal ecosystem.

Octavia Carbon shares that “as the carbon removal market continues to mature, structured transactions like this are essential.”

According to the company, offtake agreements like this one “build trust between buyers and suppliers, reinforce accountability, and strengthen confidence across the entire value chain.”
