New Impact Report By Cool Effect Highlights Benefits From Carbon Finance - Carbon Herald

Cool Effect, a Bay Area nonprofit supporting carbon reduction and removal projects, has released its first Impact Report, detailing how $66 million in carbon finance—generated through the sale of high-quality carbon credits—has driven measurable environmental and socioeconomic benefits worldwide.

Covering data from January 2020 to December 2024, the report highlights investments in forest conservation, methane reduction, clean energy access, biodiversity restoration, and community development.

“The release of our Impact Report is a pivotal moment for both Cool Effect and the voluntary carbon market as a whole,” said Jodi Manning, CEO of Cool Effect. “This report underscores our commitment to rigorous evaluation, accountability, and the transformative power of data.”

The report highlights that over $66.1 million was allocated to carbon projects between 2020 and 2024, resulting in the removal of 7.68 million tons of carbon emissions.

More than 43 communities in Mexico benefited from sustainable forestry initiatives, while over 350,000 people gained access to 90,000 clean-burning cookstoves, reducing household air pollution by 47%.

Additionally, 1.19 million tons of methane emissions were eliminated, and funding supported the planting of 40.9 million mangroves to restore coastal ecosystems.

The report also notes that 2.23 million hectares of land have been protected to enhance biodiversity and carbon sequestration.

“At Cool Effect, we believe transparency is the cornerstone of meaningful climate action,” said Dee Lawrence, Co-Founder and Director, emphasizing the report’s goal of showcasing the real impact supporters have had on both people and the planet.

For nearly a decade, Cool Effect has adhered to its principle of Carbon Done Correctly, selecting only the highest quality carbon projects. Out of more than 5,000 reviewed, just 54 projects (around 1%) have met the nonprofit’s rigorous evaluation standards.
