New Guide Offers Companies Practical Steps For Integrating CDR On The Path To Net-Zero - Carbon Herald

A newly published market resource called the Removals Action Guide offers companies actionable advice on incorporating carbon dioxide removal (CDR) into sustainability strategies as a complementary measure to greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

The valuable resource was put together by the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, Oxford Net Zero, Rethinking Removals, and Race to Zero and was published as an effort to stimulate corporate action that would move the needle towards the global target of reaching net-zero by 2050.

Building on the principles introduced in the Exponential Business Playbook in 2025, the newly published guide outlines six steps that companies working on sustainability strategies can take immediately.

These steps include incorporating CDR into the strategy, calculating the anticipated residual emissions, defining a trajectory and milestones, defining a robust portfolio of removals, identifying a funding model, and lastly, setting up accounting, reporting, and communications.

The guide underlines that reaching net-zero within the defined 2050 deadline will require a timely corporate implementation of CDR, raising the point that the time for action is now.

By choosing to start working early on incorporating CDR within their strategies, businesses will secure an edge in risk and cost management, investing and securing long-term, affordable access to a range of CO2 removal solutions, and preparing to meet the looming national and international regulations and requirements on CDR.

Additionally, besides introducing decarbonization benefits, corporate CDR implementations could also complement business operations, potentially helping unlock cost reductions or new product creation and revenue opportunities, as well as better supplier engagement.

As highlighted in the guide, by choosing to incorporate CDR now, companies are also establishing themselves as climate leaders within their sector.

The companies that have already set ambitious decarbonization targets in their net-zero journey now need to get internal and external stakeholders on board, creating procurement and due diligence processes as they work on crafting a business-oriented CDR strategy that would help them advance towards the desired climate targets.
