ClimeFi has launched a new initiative called “Beyond Emissions,” which aims to bring CDR buyers closer to high-quality bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) projects.
To kick off this program, ClimeFi has partnered with Stockholm Exergi, one of the largest district heating providers in Sweden, who is currently developing the Beccs Stockholm project.
The Swedish company recently won the staggering $1.8 billion in government funding, which will support the development of the Beccs Stockholm facility—Europe’s largest site for capturing and storing biogenic carbon dioxide.
By partnering with Stockholm Exergi on the “Beyond Emissions” initiative, ClimeFi will offer buyers the time-limited chance to tap into the BECCS market under unique preferred commercial terms and guarantees and open access to a comprehensive risk assessment of the project.
Erik Rylander, Head of Carbon Removal at Stockholm Exergi, commented, “Stockholm Exergi is proud to lead the development of BECCS globally. With Beccs Stockholm, we will provide permanent removals to corporations seeking to meet their net-zero targets.”
He goes on to add, “The ‘Beyond Emissions’ initiative with ClimeFi will allow more companies to access BECCS in ways they may not have otherwise been able to.”
“Beyond Emissions” aims to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of buyers procuring BECCS carbon dioxide removal.
In line with this goal, the initiative is eliminating the need for upfront commitments, and it is reducing the minimum transaction amount for a large-scale project, with minimum purchases starting at 1,000 tonnes per year.

The program also provides a guarantee on the price with upfront transparency on the commercial terms throughout all commitment sizes.
Additionally, it offers access to ClimeFi’s comprehensive due diligence process performed by its expert team while providing a contractual guarantee from the developer that confirms the project’s compliance with the European Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF).
ClimeFi Co-Founder & CEO Paolo Piffaretti stated, “This first-of-a-kind initiative will foster broader market adoption of climate-critical projects thanks to the unique structure that ClimeFi has developed with Stockholm Exergi.”
