AlliedOffsets has released a new market report observing the momentum of soil carbon in 2026. The publication goes through the sector milestones witnessed this year, which is turning out to be the most newsworthy yet for soil carbon.

In the report, AlliedOffsets looks at the available market data to see where soil carbon stands today, without labelling 2026 as an overdue validation or early hype.

The publication is intended to serve buyers and investors considering entering soil carbon, agricultural companies exploring the market or Scope 3 reduction pathways, and parties deciding whether to procure soil carbon credits to sell, as well as anyone trying to filter genuine 2026 momentum from hype.

Assessed data shows that as with other carbon pathways, for soil carbon too, the number of Core Carbon Principles (CCP)-approved issuances is on the rise in 2026.

Figures confirm that soil carbon supply isn’t yet broad-based. The AlliedOffsets publication observes that in terms of issuers, Northern Rangelands Trust is the single largest one by a wide margin, outnumbering the next-closest developer roughly two or threefold times.

Among the top 10 issuers are also Zhejiang Academy of Forestry Sciences, Agriprove, Hebei Lvyi Agricultural Technology, Indigo Carbon, WeAct, and others.

Soil carbon supply is also geographically concentrated, with significant volumes primarily coming from a small number of countries, signalling that this is not yet a globally distributed market.

India dominates forecasted future issuances, followed by Kenya, China, and Brazil, who comprise most of the rest of the near-term pipeline.

Soil carbon buyers and issuance forecast

The buyer base for soil carbon credits has grown from 80 buyers in 2022 to 128 in 2026, with the list of top offtakes and retirees including brands such as Microsoft, Shell, NW Natural, and PetroChina.

Forecasted issuance is projected to peak in the early 2040s before declining, based on a model of currently active projects and their crediting periods coming to an end.
