ABB has launched its first fully integrated gas analyzer package designed specifically for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) applications, aiming to address a persistent operational bottleneck as projects move from pilots to commercial scale: ensuring CO2 quality and compliance across the full CCUS value chain.

The new turnkey offering combines three established ABB technologies into a single, modular analyzer shelter, providing continuous, real-time measurement of trace impurities from capture through compression, transport and storage.

The package integrates the Sensi+ CCUS laser gas analyzer, the GCP100 process gas chromatograph and the ACF5000 CCUS FTIR system, creating what the company describes as a “one-stop shop” for CO2 stream quality management.

Maintaining CO2 purity is increasingly critical as CCUS networks expand and pipeline operators introduce stricter specifications. Even small concentrations of contaminants such as hydrogen sulphide, moisture, oxygen and inert gases can increase corrosion risk, affect compressibility and trigger pipeline rejection.

Non-compliant streams may be disconnected from shared transport and storage infrastructure, forcing operators to vent captured CO2 back to the stack and incur financial penalties.

ABB’s integrated solution is designed to simplify procurement and reduce engineering effort by delivering pre-configured measurement technologies in a single shelter, with consistent calibration and performance across CCUS stages.

According to the company, this approach can shorten project timelines and lower integration risk for developers working across hard-to-abate sectors including cement, waste-to-energy, oil refining, bioenergy, LNG, power generation and chemicals.

Beyond core measurement, the package is backed by ABB’s global service network and digital asset health tools, including AI-supported device diagnostics and condition monitoring.

The analyzer suite can also be paired with ABB’s CCS 360 platform, which uses digital twin technology to help operators plan, monitor and optimize CCUS networks over their lifecycle.

As CCUS infrastructure becomes more networked and regulated, measurement and compliance are emerging as critical enablers of bankable projects. ABB’s launch reflects a broader shift in the sector from capture technology alone toward the operational systems needed to make large-scale CO2 transport and storage reliable, interoperable and commercially viable.
