New $150 Million Toyota Ventures Fund Welcomes Carbon Capture And Removal Applications - Carbon Herald

Toyota Ventures has added two new funds that will split $300 million split equally between its Frontier Fund II (TVFF II) and Climate Fund II (TVCF II). With this the investment arm of the world’s largest automotive producer will have over $800 million under management.

Through Climate Fund II Toyota Ventures has made 18 investments in a broad range of climte tech startups, ranging from renewables, batteries, hydrogen, carbon capture, removal and utilization.

Some of the prominent names with a carbon focus have been:

  • Yard Stick – developers of advanced soil CO2 measurement technologies
  • Carbon removal marketplace Nori
  • Living Carbon – a climate biotech company developing trees that capture and store more carbon
  • Syzygy Plasmonics – developing an all-electric reactor systems for the electrification of the chemical industry and delivery of low-carbon hydrogen, methanol and fuel.

While climate tech in general has seen a reduced level of investments lately, carbon capture and removal have bucked the trend, with the latter reaching a peak of $3.6B in investments last year according to a report from Allied Offsets.
