Net Power Inc. is sharpening its commercial strategy around one of the power sector’s most sought-after capabilities: natural-gas generation paired with proven carbon-capture technology. The company’s newly announced partnership with Entropy Inc., a developer of post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) systems, marks its most decisive step yet toward building a scalable portfolio of low-carbon firm-power projects.
The agreement, outlined alongside Net Power’s third-quarter results, would give the company exclusive U.S. power-sector rights to use Entropy’s solvent-based capture technology, which has been deployed in multiple commercial settings.
Both sides expect to finalize definitive documents in the coming months. The pairing is intended to accelerate commercial deployment at a moment when U.S. electricity demand is rising at its fastest pace in decades, largely driven by data-center expansion, reshoring of manufacturing and electrification.
Net Power CEO Danny Rice underscored the urgency of that shift. “The market is beginning to embrace reality: the only responsible way to meet unprecedented electricity demand growth is with natural gas power, and the only safe and proven way to do so while reducing emissions is with carbon capture. Net Power’s mission is to transform natural gas into the lowest cost form of clean firm power,” he said. “Expanding our offerings to include PCC unlocks a significant market opportunity directly in front of us.”
The Entropy alliance will be central to Net Power’s first major developments. In West Texas, the company is advancing its Project Permian site as a “clean firm power hub” capable of up to 1 gigawatt of generation.
Phase I relies on conventional gas turbines paired with Entropy’s capture system; Net Power has secured 60 megawatts of turbines for 2028 delivery and is finalizing commercial agreements with Occidental for power sales and CO2 offtake. A final investment decision is expected in 2026.
A second hub in northern MISO is moving in parallel, with site control, a 300-megawatt interconnection request and partner-led Class VI sequestration permits underway. That project is similarly planned around Entropy’s PCC system, targeting a 2027 investment decision and potential 2029 operations.
For Net Power, the partnership is designed to bridge the gap between long-term proprietary technology development and the immediate need for dispatchable, lower-carbon power on a strained U.S. grid.
