MHI Delivers CO2 Compressor For Carbon Capture Project By ExxonMobil In Wyoming - Carbon Herald

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) (TYO: 7011) has successfully delivered a carbon dioxide (CO2) product compressor package for ExxonMobil‘s carbon capture and storage (CCS) expansion project in LaBarge, Wyoming.

The core equipment for the project was manufactured and tested by MHI Compressor Corporation (MCO) in Hiroshima, Japan, and delivered in April 2024.

The packaging work was then completed by MHI Compressor International Corporation (MCO-I) in Pearland, Texas, ensuring seamless integration while allowing the end-user to perform final inspections and become familiar with the equipment locally.

Michael McCurry, Account Executive at MCO-I, highlighted the importance of the collaboration with ExxonMobil, stating that their longstanding relationship with the oil and gas major, along with their capability to manufacture and test large, vertically split type machines, was a key factor in their selection.

McCurry also mentioned the incorporation of unique technologies that facilitate the installation and removal of the large compressor bundle during maintenance, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability.

This project aligns with MHI’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and developing innovative technologies for a sustainable future.

Personnel from both MCO and MCO-I were involved in manufacturing, testing, and providing installation and commissioning support, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance throughout the process.

MCO-I’s successful delivery of the CO2 compressor package represents a critical step forward for ExxonMobil’s CCS capabilities, advancing efforts to reduce carbon emissions in line with global climate targets.
