Malaysia has officially enacted the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Act 2025 following royal assent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.
The legislation, approved during the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament (held from February 3 to March 25), was formally announced in Parliament today.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul confirmed the King’s endorsement prior to the Minister’s Question Time during the latest parliamentary sitting.
The newly passed law establishes a legal framework for the capture, transport, reuse, and long-term storage of carbon dioxide.
It is designed to help curb climate change impacts while also fostering the carbon management sector as a potential driver of economic development.
Also during the session, Johari extended a warm welcome to a delegation from Perlis comprising head prefects participating in the 2025 Parliamentary School Programme.
“This programme is one of Parliament’s initiatives to provide exposure to the country’s parliamentary democracy system and to nurture leadership qualities among future leaders,” he said.
