Lloyds Bank Launches New Carbon And Nature Markets Practice In London - Carbon Herald

Lloyds Bank has unveiled a new Voluntary Carbon and Nature Markets (VCNM) practice within its Business and Commercial Banking unit, aiming to guide corporate clients through the evolving landscape of sustainable finance.

Based in London, the new initiative will provide expert support on carbon credits and nature-based solutions as part of companies’ wider decarbonization efforts.

The launch forms part of Lloyds’ broader Sustainability & Client Advisory division, which was established in 2021 and now supports over 1,000 of the bank’s largest clients in integrating environmental strategies into their business models.

The move comes amid rising demand for high-quality carbon offsets and increased regulatory and stakeholder pressure on companies to meet net-zero targets.

The VCNM practice will be co-led by Lloyds veterans Emily Martin and Gabriella Carden.

Together, they will focus on helping clients identify credible offset opportunities, embed nature-based solutions into climate strategies, and ensure alignment with science-based targets.

Lloyds aims to bring credibility and due diligence to the growing voluntary carbon market (VCM), addressing concerns around transparency and greenwashing.

“With deep expertise in sustainable finance, Emily and Gaby will help our clients engage effectively in voluntary carbon and nature markets – a growing part of the UK’s clean growth strategy,” said Hannah Simons, Head of Sustainability at Lloyds Corporate Markets.

As the UK considers expanding its carbon market mechanisms, Lloyds is positioning itself as a key player in shaping the next phase of climate finance.

The initiative underscores the financial sector’s increasing role in driving corporate sustainability and restoring natural ecosystems through credible, science-backed market solutions.
