Linde Signs Clean Hydrogen Supply Deal With Dow, To Build $2Bn Production Complex In Canada - Carbon Herald

Global industrial gases and engineering company Linde (Nasdaq: LIN) has signed a long-term agreement to supply clean hydrogen to Dow‘s Path2Zero Project in Fort Saskatchewan, Canada and will invest over $2 billion to build a large-scale production facility in Alberta for that purpose.

This integrated clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases facility will be owned and operated by Linde and will use autothermal reforming along with its proprietary HISORP carbon capture technology.

Additionally, the new complex will recover hydrogen from off-gases generated by Dow’s ethylene cracker, Linde said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the initial phase, the facility will provide clean hydrogen, nitrogen, and other services to support Dow’s groundbreaking net-zero emissions ethylene cracker and derivatives site.

The clean hydrogen produced will also be available to other industrial customers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

The facility will capture and sequester over 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually.

Set to be completed in 2028, this complex will be Canada’s largest clean hydrogen production facility and one of the largest in the world, according to Linde.

It marks the company’s most significant single investment and its second major clean hydrogen project, following a similar initiative for a blue ammonia project on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Linde is committed to building a more sustainable future through high-quality projects with secured off-take agreements, CEO Sanjiv Lamba said in a comment to the announcement.

He expressed pride in partnering with Dow to decarbonize its Fort Saskatchewan site, while also acknowledging the support from the Province of Alberta and the Federal Government.

Jim Fitterling, Chair and CEO of Dow, stressed the importance of receiving support from partners across the value chain in its efforts to decarbonize the group’s assets, highlighting Linde’s role as a collaborator on this groundbreaking project.

Linde is actively developing clean hydrogen projects across various applications and industries, expanding its presence throughout the entire hydrogen value chain.
