The climate tech industry recently welcomed a new digital tool named Karpture that tracks the real-time carbon removal achieved through direct air capture (DAC) technology.
Scanning DAC efforts on a global level, this novel platform offers transparent data on operational facilities, displaying live metrics on the tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere.
Marcel Daake, the creator of Karpture, combined his deep knowledge of innovative digital products with his passion for climate action and sustainability to deliver this sophisticated platform that depicts the progress of the dynamic direct air capture sector.
Among other interesting figures, Karpture presents a ranking of top-performing DAC facilities while also reflecting on numbers like the amount of carbon removed for the current year and the scope of installed DAC capacities.
Its data feed is composed of publicly available information and submissions from DAC facilities, as well as information gathered from automated crawlers that scan for updates.
This data set is then aggregated and verified before being visualized in real-time carbon capture data from different sites around the world.
To calculate the cumulative atmospheric CO2 removed, the platform relies on proprietary formulas that take into account factors like operation uptime, reported efficiency levels, and facility capacity.
A custom backend pipeline then processes these results, storing them in a live database that feeds information into the live counters and facility dashboards displayed on the Karpture website.

The platform utilizes AI-powered validation tools that flag anomalies and inconsistencies in the reported figures, making the final displayed data more accurate and precise.
To make sure that the metrics are constantly up-to-date and reflect real-time removal, Karpture uses scheduled tasks and serverless functions, refreshing actual numbers without manual input.
While clarifying that the numbers displayed on the platform are estimates, Karpture also points out that the system aims to provide a reliable overview of global DAC efforts.
Recognizing DAC as one of the technologies vital for achieving climate targets on time, Karpture intends to provide a clearer overview of this decarbonization field, hoping to contribute towards better-informed decision-making and an accelerated DAC development.
