  • J.P. Morgan Natural Capital plans to invest about $200 million in a large-scale forestry platform in Paraguay.
  • The project will combine commercial forests, native-forest restoration, timber production and carbon credits.
  • Capital deployment is expected to begin in early 2027, with local processing and rural development among its goals.

J.P. Morgan Natural Capital plans to invest approximately $200 million in sustainable forestry in Paraguay, partnering with local business group Grupo Robinson to develop a large-scale platform spanning timber, carbon credits and wood products.

The investment was announced last week at the Paraguay Investment Forum NYC 2026 by Paraguay’s government and J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Grupo Robinson will provide local expertise and experience in agriculture and forestry as the project develops.

The initiative will establish commercial forests while supporting restoration of native forests. The partners also plan to produce timber and wood products for both domestic and export markets, with an emphasis on processing more of the output inside Paraguay.

Investment Targets Rural Growth And Local Processing

Capital deployment is scheduled to start in early 2027. The project is intended to support employment in rural areas and strengthen local communities while promoting sustainable use of natural resources.

“This investment in Paraguay is a compelling opportunity to build a scalable, long-term forestry platform grounded in sustainable resource management and rural development,” Angela Davis, chief executive of J.P. Morgan Natural Capital, said.

Santiago Peña, President of Paraguay, welcomed the initiative, praising its focus on sustainable development, job creation and adding value to the local economy.

J.P. Morgan Natural Capital manages more than 1.5 million acres across three continents and oversees $11 billion in assets for institutional investors, according to the company.

In March 2025, its Forest & Climate Solutions Fund II raised $1.5 billion, which J.P. Morgan said was the largest forestry fund of its kind at the time.

The Paraguay investment adds to the firm’s focus on forestland and nature-based assets as the partners seek to combine international capital with local production capabilities and longer-term forestry development.
