Timber investment manager Campbell Global has led the purchase of 40,800 acres of commercial timberland on behalf of institutional investors that are part of J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The new site, home to approximately 20 million standing trees of different ages and species, will be managed for carbon removal activities along with timber production for sustainable building products and other uses.

Located on the Olympic Peninsula in the state of Washington, the timberland has been given the name Tyee in homage to the indigenous Native American history of the Cascadia region.

With decades worth of know-how in managing investments on behalf of pension funds, foundations, and other institutional investors, Campbell Global has positioned itself as a front-runner in forest management and timberland investing.

Following the 2021 acquisition of Campbell Global by J.P. Morgan Asset Management, the timberland management leader spearheaded this deal, leveraging their expert industry knowledge stemming from the management of over five million acres of timberland worldwide.

Commenting on this advance, Angie Davies, President of Campbell Global, shared that they are pleased to add Tyee to their timberland portfolio, further expanding their footprint in the Pacific Northwest, where they have more than 40 years of experience.

Acknowledging their institutional client base, she added, “The acquisition of Tyee helps us provide new investments in sustainable forestry to our clients.”

Besides a rich mosaic of standing trees, the land also hosts over 360 miles of streams, almost half of which are home to fish populations.

Within its territory there are also habitats of diverse wildlife species like spotted owls, bald eagles, ospreys, deer, elks, bears, and many salmon varieties.

Having a certification level of 100% according to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative standards, the Tyee timberland is projected to enable operations that will result in the creation of employment opportunities for the residents in the remote areas of this peninsula.
