Isometric has signed its first China-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects, agreeing to provide certification services to three developers, working on direct air capture (DAC) and biochar initiatives.
The certification platform announced that it will work with DAC company DeCarbon Tech and biochar developers Tongao Greenchar and Vastwing Energy, providing their projects with the high-quality certification needed to access buyers on the international market.
To certify the projects against its scientifically rigorous protocols, Isometric will use its AI-powered Certify platform, combining the work of AI agents with that of human verifiers to review every data point.
China’s commitment of reaching net-zero by 2060 will require deep emissions reductions, as well as an estimated 3 billion tonnes of annual CO2 removal to offset residual emissions, and the country is well positioned to deliver these climate solutions at scale.
“China is one of the best-placed countries on earth to deliver carbon removal and reduction at scale, from DAC and biochar to superpollutant reduction in rice paddies. We’re looking forward to working with these developers, and many more, to ensure every certificate represents real, measurable climate impact,” said Lukas May, Chief Commercial Officer at Isometric.
China is said to have more potential to remove CO2 through biochar than any other country in the world. If all of its crop residues were used as feedstock, the biochar produced could remove an estimated 470 million tonnes per year.
The China-based companies that have signed with Isometric
One of the companies working on biochar in China is Tongao Greenchar, established by Tongao Group and Greenchar Climate Solutions.
This integrated project developer produces durable biochar from responsibly sourced agricultural and forestry residues through an approach that spans biomass sourcing through to long-term monitoring. The resulting biochar product is then used in traceable soil applications and fertilizer products.

Vastwing Energy, on the other hand, produces biochar from discarded fruit tree branches in a project that is said to have the potential to produce 75,000 tonnes of biochar-based fertilizer per year.
The third Chinese developer to sign with Isometric is DeCarbon Tech, a DAC company that captures atmospheric CO2 and stores it permanently through mineralization, producing a captured CO2 supply for industrial use and building capacity to support net-zero industrial systems.
