The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) greenlit Summit Carbon Solutions’ major pipeline project, a significant win not only for the company but also for the entire agricultural sector.

This approval paves the way for the industry to tap into new and emerging markets, such as sustainable aviation fuel, by reducing the carbon footprint (measured by carbon intensity score) of ethanol production.

This decision comes after successful permit renewal hearings in North Dakota for the segment of the pipeline that will travel through the state.

Lee Blank, CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions, stated: “The momentum will continue as we prepare to file our South Dakota permit application in early July.”

“We look forward to engaging with the state throughout this process and are confident in a successful outcome,” Blank said.

Summit Carbon Solutions has partnered with 57 ethanol plants across five states and has secured voluntary agreements with landowners for 75% of the pipeline route in Iowa. The company remains committed to ongoing collaboration with landowners.

Summit Carbon Solutions expressed their appreciation for the Iowa Utilities Board’s fair and transparent handling of the pipeline permit process.
