VodafoneThree has announced a new request for proposals (RFP) via Abatable, looking for 24,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide removals from nature-based and engineered projects in the United Kingdom.
This call is being launched as part of the mobile network operator’s sustainability strategy. The four-year procurement process will be run by environmental market procurement, intelligence and advisory provider Abatable.
Leveraging its carbon procurement platform, Abatable will gather and evaluate project information against VodafoneThree’s criteria. Projects that successfully pass the evaluation will be selected in Q4 2026.
The RFP is looking for initiatives that can deliver carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the years between 2027 and 2030.
This opportunity is open in two parallel tracks that will include nature-based and engineered CO2 removal projects active in the UK.
What is covered in each VodafoneThree RFP track?
The first RFP track will cover a range of methodologies, including nature-based and emerging hybrid and tech-powered CO2 removal approaches, while the second track will focus on new woodland creation in the UK through the Woodland Carbon Code – the country’s government-backed carbon standard.
Projects verified under this code issue Woodland Carbon Units, which stand for CO2 that has already been sequestered. Pending Issuance Units are a forward promise of units expected from projects as trees grow, which get converted to Woodland Carbon Units once verified.
Pathways eligible for the RFP include afforestation, soil carbon, and nature restoration, biochar, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), and direct air capture with storage (DACCS), subject to integrity, durability and delivery schedules.

To apply for this opportunity, projects can submit proposals through Abatable’s environmental market procurement platform, which features a user-friendly design for carbon project developers.
Included in the RFP is also an optional 2031 to 2033 window intended for developers with pipeline volumes exceeding the stated four-year period. These developers can submit proposals flagging future opportunities.
Interested parties should reach out to procurement@abatable.com for more details. Received submissions will be evaluated based on location, MRV approaches and the ability to deliver CDR annually out to 2030.
