Carbonaires has launched a new, global request for proposals (RFP) for offtake-backed financing of high-integrity carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects.

As shared in the announcement, through this call, Carbonaires is looking to bring structured financing into engineered and nature-based projects with a minimum offtake contract value of $3 million.

The newly announced RFP is open to all engineered and nature-based CDR pathways, including biochar, enhanced rock weathering, BECCS, direct air capture, mineralization, afforestation and reforestation, soil carbon, and blue carbon.

Eligible projects must hold a signed or imminent offtake agreement with a contract for at least $3 million, and the financing will be set against each project’s existing or imminent offtake, where the size of the investment will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

The announcement also clarifies that the issued credits will flow to the offtake counterparty or will be retired under the terms of the offtake agreement.

This RFP is designed to close the financing gap holding back high-quality CDR projects from advancing further. To that end, Carbonaires will connect qualified projects with its global network of institutional investors through a structured process.

Rasih Ozturkmen, CEO and co-founder of Carbonaires, explained, “The carbon removal market has the projects, and it has the buyers. What it has consistently lacked is the financial infrastructure to connect them at scale. This RFP is part of how we build that infrastructure.”

In this pathway-agnostic call, Carbonaires will assess applications with a structured and transparent evaluation framework, paying special attention to carbon integrity, delivery confidence, financial robustness, governance, and the overall strategic fit.
