London-headquartered climate engagement platform Pinwheel has announced a new call for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects that would get a chance to secure funding from major corporate buyers.

The call, specifically designed for both durable and nature-based CDR initiatives, is looking for solutions that have a high potential for large-scale adoption.

Projects encouraged to apply for this call can be in different phases of development, including early-stage, undergoing validation, or certified initiatives.

In terms of project location, Pinwheel clarifies that the call is open for applications from all geographies around the world.

Additionally, the platform points out that in this round of applications, it will not consider projects centered around carbon avoidance or initiatives that will not deliver carbon credits, as well as projects that don’t have a clearly defined pathway for generating carbon credits or similar CDR units in the future.

Launched in 2021 at the COP26 event in Glasgow, Pinwheel is committed to driving corporate Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM), bridging the gap between major global corporate investors and impactful climate and biodiversity projects around the world.

Since then, the platform’s model for BVCM has managed to establish itself as a market benchmark, which, according to Pinwheel, is recommended by leading market standard entities and NGOs focused on climate issues.

In the four years of its existence, Pinwheel has successfully generated multimillion-dollar investments for climate initiatives, providing support for more than 50 projects located on different continents.

Its efforts are channeled towards enabling corporate buyers to contribute to high-impact climate projects, while at the same time empowering them to educate and involve their key stakeholders, such as clients, suppliers, and employees, in project decisions and impact tracking.

The newly announced call for CDR projects is open for applications until 5 September 2025.

Pinwheel highlights that given the high CDR demand on behalf of its corporate clients, early submissions are encouraged, and applications will be reviewed shortly after being received.
