The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Carbon Measures have unveiled the first technical expert panel on carbon accounting, marking a step toward establishing a standardized global system for emissions measurement.

The newly formed Technical Expert Panel on Carbon Accounting will work to define the principles, scope and practical application of a ledger-based emissions accounting framework.

The system is intended to track carbon emissions at the product level across complex global value chains and provide robust, verifiable data to companies, policymakers and standard-setters.

Selection was led by ICC, with candidates reviewed by panel co-chairs Amy Brachio, CEO of Carbon Measures, and Karthik Ramanna, professor at the University of Oxford.

Brachio said the panel brings together specialists with deep technical expertise and a long-standing focus on emissions reduction, united by an ambition to develop a system that can clearly distinguish low carbon products and help policy and market competition drive meaningful cuts in emissions.

The partners have extended the deadline for further nominations to February 15 to attract additional qualified candidates.
