Halliburton has been awarded a significant contract to support the UK’s first offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, set to become a cornerstone of the country’s decarbonization strategy. The oilfield services firm will provide completions and downhole monitoring systems for the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP)—a joint initiative led by BP, Equinor, and TotalEnergies.
Located roughly 75 kilometers off the coast of Flamborough Head, the NEP project will link onshore CO2 collection and compression infrastructure with a 145-kilometer (90 miles) subsea pipeline that terminates at the Endurance saline aquifer, a storage formation situated around 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) beneath the seabed.
The project is designed to handle carbon emissions captured from key facilities in Teesside, including NZT Power, H2Teesside, and Teesside Hydrogen CO2 Capture.
These were selected by the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) in March 2023 as part of the government’s cluster sequencing framework for advancing CCS deployment.

Halliburton will manufacture much of the required equipment at its Arbroath facility in Scotland, further anchoring the project in the UK supply chain.
Construction is slated to begin later this year, with initial CO2 injection targeted for 2027 and commercial operations projected to commence by 2028.
The site has been authorized to sequester up to 4 metric million tons of carbon annually, which could result in the permanent storage of 100 million tons over its planned 25-year lifespan.
Additional Contractors Join the Project
Several other industry players are involved in bringing the NEP project to life. Noble Corporation has been selected to drill six wells using its Noble Innovator jack-up rig, beginning in the third quarter of 2026.
Expro will lead integrated well testing operations, while SLB (formerly Schlumberger) will contribute its Sequestri technology suite to support the construction and management of the carbon storage wells.
Together, these partnerships reflect growing momentum in the UK’s carbon capture sector, signaling the start of large-scale deployment aimed at curbing industrial emissions and advancing net-zero goals.
