Great Carbon Valley (GCV) and Yama have joined forces to accelerate the development of direct air capture (DAC) projects in East Africa.
GCV, a Kenyan systems integrator, and Yama, a French DAC technology leader, bring complementary strengths to the partnership.
GCV’s expertise in project development, coupled with Yama’s cutting-edge DAC technology, will enable the companies to deliver large-scale, technological carbon removal solutions across the region.
The partnership aims to offer cost-effective and high-quality carbon management solutions, promoting green industrial development in East Africa.
The collaboration between Yama and Great Carbon Valley will focus on integrating DAC and energy technologies to create sustainable carbon removal and green industrial hubs in key locations along the Great Rift Valley.

The initial pilot project, scheduled to last about 2-3 years, will serve as a foundation for a demonstrator plant, a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) plant, and ultimately, a large-scale plant capable of capturing as much as 5 million metric tons of CO2 annually by 2032.
This partnership further strengthens Kenya’s role as a leader in DAC technology and paves the way for future expansion of carbon removal projects on a larger scale.
