Climate standards body Gold Standard and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have entered a new partnership aimed at strengthening the integrity of international carbon markets and expanding access to high-quality climate finance.

According to a joint statement, the two organizations on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on digital tools, certification frameworks, and national capacity building programs.

The initiative seeks to help governments and project developers implement carbon market systems consistent with the Paris Agreement and aligned with sustainable development goals.

Gold Standard, which oversees widely used carbon credit certification standards, will provide its registry platform and monitoring frameworks.

GGGI will contribute its policy expertise and experience implementing climate projects across more than 50 member countries.

Together, they aim to channel finance into projects that deliver measurable climate, social, and environmental benefits.

“Integrity is the foundation of effective carbon markets,” said Margaret Kim, Gold Standard’s chief executive.

GGGI’s Director-General Sang-Hyup Kim called the collaboration “a step towards translating climate ambition into actionable and investable projects.”

By combining certification rigor with policy implementation, the two organizations hope to create a model that countries can adopt to build transparent, accountable, and investment-ready carbon market systems.

The agreement draws on years of cooperation between the two entities and follows Gold Standard’s rollout of its updated Policy Requirements and Procedures for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which governs international carbon trading.

The alliance could strengthen confidence in the voluntary and compliance carbon markets at a time when scrutiny over credit quality is intensifying.
