Global Carbon Management Academy Launches To Advance Climate Education

Global Carbon Management Academy Launches To Advance Climate Education - Carbon Herald

A new global effort to scale up carbon management knowledge and capacity has officially launched with the debut of the Global Carbon Management Academy.

Spearheaded by the Global Carbon Management Foundation in collaboration with the Global CCS Institute, the Academy brings together world-class institutions — including Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Imperial College London — to foster education, research, and training in carbon mitigation.

Designed as a digital-first initiative, the Academy will soon unveil a centralized online platform that aggregates the latest developments in carbon management.

The portal will serve as a comprehensive resource featuring expert directories, academic and professional training opportunities, job listings, and access to international research and projects.

First Training Held in Saudi Arabia

Before the platform’s official launch, the Academy began rolling out its educational offerings through global training events. The first course took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 20–22, 2025, under the auspices of the Kingdom’s Ministry of Energy.

Held as part of the Middle East Green Initiative’s Regional Collaboration for Emissions Reduction, the session welcomed 27 participants from a variety of sectors and countries, who delivered lectures on core carbon management principles, policy frameworks, and region-specific strategies for emissions reduction.

In addition to offering both virtual and in-person training modules, the Academy will serve as a bridge between academia, industry, and government.

Future growth is anticipated as additional universities and research organizations join the Academy network. Its partnership with the Carbon Management Challenge and ongoing support from the Global CCS Institute will help ensure broad international engagement.

The full platform is scheduled to go live ahead of COP30 later this year, expanding global access to carbon management tools and training when they’re needed most.

“We developed the Global Carbon Management Academy with the knowledge that carbon management cannot scale effectively without global collaboration and resource sharing.” said Vanshika Goel, project lead.

“Our hope is that the Academy will grow into a robust network of researchers advancing this critical field. Enthusiasm from institutions across the world has reflected that this is a timely and critical effort.”
