Renewable fuels and carbon management company Gevo has appointed Alex Clayton as its new Chief Carbon Officer, marking a strategic leadership move aimed at accelerating the company’s expansion in voluntary carbon markets.
Clayton transitions into the role from his previous position as Chief Business Development Officer as part of a broader organizational realignment designed to support Gevo’s long-term growth strategy. The company said the appointment reflects the increasing importance of carbon market activity as a core revenue driver alongside its low-carbon fuels and chemicals business.
Paul Bloom, President of Gevo, said the company views its carbon business as a key pillar of future growth, adding that Clayton has played a central role in launching the platform and positioning Gevo as a major participant in the evolving carbon market.
Scaling engineered carbon removal
Gevo has emerged as an active player in the voluntary carbon market, focusing on the production and delivery of engineered carbon dioxide removal credits.
The company’s North Dakota facility is positioned as one of the largest producers of engineered removals globally and is currently the only ethanol-based carbon capture and storage project issuing credits with certified thousand-year permanence.
In his new role, Clayton will oversee the expansion of Gevo’s carbon portfolio, strengthen partnerships, and advance the integration of agricultural systems with global carbon markets.
