The Frontier commitment has signed offtake agreements with CO280 and CREW Carbon, investing $80 million in CO2 removal.
As part of this deal, CO280 will receive $48 million from Frontier buyers to remove 224,500 tons of CO2 between 2028 and 2030, while CREW Carbon will receive $32.1 million to remove 71,878 tons of carbon dioxide between 2025 and 2030.
This decision is yet another bold step in Frontier’s vision of accelerating the advancement of carbon removal technologies. The coalition, founded by Stripe, Google, Shopify, and McKinsey Sustainability, is making this investment with participation from its members Autodesk, H&M Group, Workday, and Salesforce.
Other members like Aledade, Canva, Match Group, Samsara, SKIMS, Skyscanner, Wise, and Zendesk will join with purchases made through Frontier’s partnership with Watershed.
CO280 specializes in retrofitting pulp and paper mills with a carbon removal mechanism that collects biogenic CO2 from recovery boilers during the processing of byproducts generated from pulp production. The collected carbon dioxide is then transported and permanently stored in Class VI wells.
Under the agreement with Frontier, CO280 will deliver the offsets from operations at its first pulp and paper mill carbon removal project in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
CREW Carbon partners with wastewater treatment plants, utilizing their existing infrastructure to deploy a carbon removal system that successfully collects CO2 during the treatment processes.

By adding alkaline minerals to wastewater treatment tanks, where biogenic CO2 is produced with the help of microbes, CREW is able to turn the carbon dioxide into a more stable, aqueous bicarbonate ion that gets safely discharged into different bodies of water like oceans and rivers, or in the subsurface, where it is stored for thousands of years.
The company also installs a monitoring system at the inlet and outlet of the wastewater treatment plant that provides a precise quantification of the carbon dioxide captured within the treatment process.
With this investment in solutions that build on existing infrastructure, Frontier hopes to stimulate the growth of carbon-tackling technologies that have the potential for rapid scaling.
