Frontier Infrastructure Holdings has signed a multi-year partnership with Carbonfuture to bring its ethanol bioenergy carbon capture and sequestration (BECCS) CO2 removal credits to buyers across global carbon markets.
The milestone agreement marks the largest ethanol BECCS carbon removal deal announced to date. The partnership emerges against a backdrop of corporate demand for high-quality removals that exceeds the near-term supply available at scale.
Under the partnership, Carbonfuture will leverage its expertise as a leading facilitator of durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to offer the credits for purchase to corporate and institutional buyers.
The agreement covers 750,000 durable CDR credits from Frontier Infrastructure Holdings’ ethanol BECCS initiative called Project Sprint.
This agreement carves a market path for the credits ahead of operations, linking Frontier’s carbon capture, transport, and storage capacity with Carbonfuture’s digital infrastructure and global network of CDR buyers.
“By bringing Frontier’s ethanol BECCS supply to market, this partnership expands access to verifiable, durable removals while reinforcing the rigorous standards needed to scale the sector,” said Julie Mansfield, Head of Global Buyer Growth at Carbonfuture.
What will the ethanol BECCS project entail?
Project Spring will capture biogenic carbon dioxide from ethanol production, and the CO2 will then be permanently sequestered in dedicated geologic storage sites.
Captured CO2 will be transported via Frontier’s CO2-by-rail platform, which connects ethanol producers across the Midwest to the company’s permitted sequestration infrastructure in Wyoming. This novel platform enables producers to participate in CDR markets without waiting on pipeline development.
As shared by Frontier, the CO2 removal will be certified under Puro.earth‘s Geologically Stored Carbon (GSC) Methodology, while the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) will be provided by Mangrove Systems.

The project’s CO2 sequestration is expected to begin in Q4 2027, which is when the first removal deliveries are also projected to occur.
Frontier CEO Steven Lowenthal stated, “This partnership agreement marks an important step forward for our CO2-by-rail initiative and for the ethanol producers we serve. Carbonfuture has built a trusted platform for durable carbon removal, and partnering with them gives our customers a practical, near-term pathway to achieving their net zero goals through a trustworthy infrastructure.”
