Sustainable forestry and CO2 sequestration company FLS has partnered with environmental tech manufacturer HaiQi to deliver a series of biomass-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects in Paraguay.

Under the partnership, FLS will be in charge of structuring and spearheading the projects, while HaiQi will provide, maintain, and optimize the main technology components needed for the planned operations.

Envisioned to deliver a portfolio of biocarbon initiatives, this partnership will develop biochar, biocoke, and activated carbon production projects in Paraguay, paving the way for the advancement of climate-positive solutions in this South American country.

The collaboration will be kicked off with Paraguay’s first biochar project that will utilize forestry residues as a feedstock that will be processed with HaiQi’s proprietary pyrolysis and gasification technology.

By producing biochar, the project will not only offer a durable solution to CO2 emissions, but it will also enable the production of clean, renewable electricity while delivering a biochar product that improves soil health.

As explained by Alessandro Materni, Managing Partner at FLS, the collaboration with HaiQi will drive action towards four national priorities, as it will establish a reliable offtake alternative for Paraguay’s emerging forestry industry, while achieving long-term CDR, generating clean energy, and opening up job opportunities in this region.

Through these projects, the partnering companies will also generate carbon removal credits for corporate buyers working on net-zero strategies.

To ensure the credits meet the market standards for quality and integrity, FLS and HaiQi will apply rigorous quality controls from the outset across all their projects in Paraguay.

Commenting on the announcement, HaiQi’s CEO Steven Su stated, “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to delivering credible, scalable decarbonization solutions.”

“As global demand for biocarbon products and verifiable and durable carbon removals accelerates, it positions us to capture these market opportunities while supplying clean, renewable energy to the Paraguayan grid.”

FLS and HaiQi have pointed out that the two companies will work exclusively with one another for the duration of their collaborative agreement.
