Equilibrium has secured $3 million in seed funding to scale its carbon removal operations in India, garnering support from Kalaari Capital, Peak XV Partners, and Avaana Capital

As announced by the company, this funding will serve to expand eight of its ongoing projects in India, covering an area of 120,000 hectares of land.

Through these projects, Equilibrium will collaborate with a network of 150,000 smallholder farmers, helping them tap into new carbon-based revenue sources and generating over 20 tonnes of high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR).

Equilibrium specializes in developing projects centered around agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, mangrove restoration, and biochar as a strategy for delivering scalable CDR initiatives that will help India build food supply resilience amid growing climate threats.

On this mission, the company utilizes an approach that combines carbon science, digital monitoring, and community-led implementation to create projects that turn agricultural and biomass waste into powerful CO2 removal tools.

To ensure its operations are scale-ready, Equilibrium partners with local entities like farmer producer organizations, NGOs, and agricultural value chain stakeholders, establishing trusted relationships that can help expand the reach of its projects.

For the CO2 removal company, the newly secured seed funding follows an earlier $2 million blended finance facility secured from international and domestic philanthropic supporters and carbon financiers.

At that time, the financing was used to deploy carbon removal projects that tackled emissions from paddy and maize supply chains, improving the livelihoods of 10,000 smallholder agricultural workers.

In a statement, Equilibrium founder Siddhanth Jayaram shared his view that scaling durable carbon removal requires sustained capital and patient ambition. He went on to add that the seed financing will help Equilibrium advance on its plans for driving a shift towards climate-resilient agriculture.

Commenting on what’s ahead, Jayaram said, “We will continue to build our technology stack, where we measure and monitor all of these carbon removal solutions. We are also building a world-class science team, operations team, and technology team.”
