A new alliance between Engine No. 1, Chevron, and GE Vernova aims to provide substantial power for American data centers.
This collaborative effort seeks to generate up to four gigawatts of electricity, capitalizing on domestic energy resources to bolster the nation’s leadership in artificial intelligence.
Engine No. 1 and Chevron have revealed a partnership focused on creating a new entity that will construct dependable, large-scale power solutions for data centers located within the United States, utilizing domestically sourced natural gas.
These initiatives build upon groundwork laid by the previous administration, which encouraged investment in utilizing America’s abundant energy resources to advance the country’s AI capabilities.
Working with GE Vernova, the joint venture aspires to create the first multi-gigawatt power plant and data center complex.
This initiative directly tackles the requirement for cost-effective and dependable energy to satisfy the growing electricity demands of US data centers, facilitating the advancement of current and future AI technologies within the country.

The joint development aims to deliver up to four gigawatts of power—enough to supply 3 to 3.5 million American households—with initial operations targeted for the end of 2027 and the possibility for future expansion.
The projects will be designed to accommodate the integration of lower-carbon technologies, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), which can remove over 90% of the CO2 emissions from the turbines, as well as renewable energy sources.
