CarbonFree, a Texas-based company that specializes in carbon-negative chemicals, has launched endurocal™, an innovative zero-CO2 mineral.
This groundbreaking product has the potential to revolutionize the production of a wide array of commercial products like paints, plastic, and paper by providing a sustainable substitute for conventionally used calcium carbonate.
CarbonFree is on a mission to decarbonize industrial manufacturing plants by equipping them with technology that captures point-source CO2 emissions and transforms them into carbon-negative chemicals.
With the launch of endurocal™, the tech company hopes to provide companies with a powerful solution for reducing the operational carbon footprint while simultaneously offering a new, sustainable source of crucial chemicals.
Martin Keighley, CEO of CarbonFree, commented, “endurocal represents a breakthrough in the recycled use of carbon dioxide, providing a cost-effective path for manufacturing competitiveness using emissions that would otherwise go to waste.”
“Companies will now have the ability to use cost-competitive chemicals while also decarbonizing their supply chains,” he added.
The novel zero carbon mineral was created with CarbonFree’s proprietary SkyCycle™ technology that captures carbon dioxide from the exhaust of industrial facilities, converting it into high-quality calcium carbonate, a mineral that is naturally found in limestone.
Once the captured carbon is incorporated into calcium carbonate, it is securely stored for a long period of time without the possibility of getting released back into the atmosphere.

In April 2024, following an agreement between CarbonFree and U.S. Steel, this technology was successfully deployed on a commercial level at U.S. Steel’s Gary Works Blast Furnace, showcasing the larger-scale feasibility of this decarbonization approach.
According to CarbonFree, practically all possible applications of calcium carbonate and its nascent substitute endurocal™ mineral are non-emissive, granting the durable storage of captured industrial CO2 emissions.
Keighley explained that while the endurocal product is no different on a molecular basis than conventionally produced calcium carbonate, its edge comes from its production process that effectively eliminates net carbon dioxide emissions.
He stated, “We’re excited to provide companies with the opportunity to help produce and use such an innovative molecule for use domestically.”
