Eco Material Presents Key Milestones In 2023 Sustainability Report - Carbon Herald

Eco Material Technologies, a Utah-based producer of sustainable cement alternatives, released on Thursday its 2023 Sustainability Report, showcasing its main achievements in reducing emissions within the concrete industry.

Key highlights include preventing 5.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, equivalent to powering 769,000 homes for a year, by expanding the use of sustainable products like fly ash and bottom ash.

The company also diverted over 10.2 million tons of waste from landfills in 2023 and is on track to double its annual supplementary cementitious material (SCM) volume to 20 million tons by 2030.

In addition, Eco Material successfully raised $125 million through Green Bonds to fund sustainable projects, bringing their total to $650 million.

Notably, the company is partnering with ClimeCo and other stakeholders to develop the first U.S. Low-Carbon Cement Protocol for generating voluntary carbon credits.

Established in 2022, Eco Material offers sustainable SCMs using coal ash and volcanic ash to substitute some of the highly polluting cement in concrete.

The company’s products, such as PozzoSlag and PozzoCEM, can replace up to 100% of ordinary portland cement in certain applications, significantly reducing emissions.

Eco Material further said it is expanding its fly ash harvesting and beneficiation capabilities with new plants in Texas and Georgia, while continuing to develop innovative low-carbon cement alternatives.

This includes its proprietary Green Cement, with 69,000 tons of the material produced in 2023 and over 50,000 metric tons of CO2 avoided.

A notable partnership with Hive3D showcases the use of Eco Material’s products in 3D-printed homes, replacing 50% to 100% of ordinary cement with sustainable materials.

Grant Quasha, CEO of Eco Material, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation in sustainable construction materials.

“Our goal is not just to reduce the carbon footprint of the concrete industry, but to revolutionize how we build for a more sustainable future,” the executive said in a comment.
