The German Association for Negative Emissions (DVNE), the Association Française pour les Émissions Négatives (AFEN), and the Negative Emissions Platform (NEP) have come together to offer companies that are part of their individual networks a joint membership with access to all three organizations.
Through this effort, the DVNE, AFEN, and NEP aim to strengthen the cross-border communication and collaboration on carbon dioxide removal (CDR), as Europe works on setting the stage for the successful development and scaling of CO2 removal technologies.
The launch of the joint membership comes at a time when Europe has the chance to position itself as a global CDR leader, seizing an opportunity to spearhead a market that could reach a trillion-dollar level if scaled to gigatons of carbon removal by 2050.
To stimulate and support action in this direction, the three organizations, active in Germany, France, and Belgium respectively, are offering the joint membership, aiming to bring larger European climate protection companies together.
The vision behind the joint membership is to facilitate knowledge sharing and accumulation, along with access to helpful tools and vital CDR sector contacts in Europe.
By choosing to work together, larger European companies can catalyze the investments and political commitment needed to bring CDR to the center stage of Europe’s sustainability strategy.
This potential broader cooperation would help create novel industries and job openings in Europe, securing a competitive advantage over other regions around the world that are also working on advancing CDR.

The joint membership offering is tailored for larger companies, as they are most likely to be interested and prepared to engage in multi-location CDR activities.
While the three organizations hope this perk will attract new members, its purpose is also to reward the members that have helped make CDR strides so far.
As shared in the announcement, the offering is extended to all existing members of the three organizations and will be initially valid until December 31, 2027, when the organizations will evaluate the impact and added value for their members.
