The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has expanded its Article 6 Letter of Authorization for carbon asset manager Econetix by up to an additional 2 million tCO2e, raising the company’s total cumulative authorized volume in the country to 2.75 million tons.

Signed in Kinshasa by H.E. Prof. Marie Nyange Ndambo, Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and the New Climate Economy, the extended authorization covers Econetix’s Gold Standard clean energy program (GS12469), implemented alongside local operational partner ALTECH Group.

The authorization applies to current and future activities under the program, including solar lighting, home solar systems, and clean cookstove distribution across the DRC.

The expansion boosts Econetix’s total portfolio of authorized, CORSIA-eligible credits to more than 14.5 million tCO2e across three African host nations: Uganda (up to 10 million tons), the DRC (2.75 million tons), and Rwanda (1.76 million tons).

Corresponding Adjustments Lock In CORSIA Eligibility Through 2033

Under the terms of the extended authorization, the DRC government confirmed it will apply corresponding adjustments under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, ensuring the units are not double-counted toward its own Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

“Going from 750,000 to 2.75 million tons in six months is a vote of confidence, and it takes Econetix to over 14.5 million tons authorized across three countries,” said Jakob Zenz, CEO of Econetix.

The authorization spans credit vintages from 2023 through 2033, making the units eligible for compliance under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

The DRC’s National Registry will serve as the official registry of record, with the next issuance of Gold Standard credits from the clean energy program anticipated in October 2026.
