International logistics company DP World has launched a new carbon insetting trial aimed at helping freight customers reduce emissions linked to ocean shipping across Europe.
The initiative, called Insetify, will begin on April 1, 2026 and will initially target ocean freight forwarding customers in Belgium, Portugal and Sweden. The program is designed to help companies reduce Scope 3 emissions—indirect emissions generated across supply chains—by providing carbon inset credits tied to freight shipments.
Under the scheme, customers shipping at least 25 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per quarter will automatically receive carbon inset credits equal to 100 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per TEU. For example, a customer transporting 50 TEUs during a quarter would earn credits equivalent to five tonnes of CO2 emissions reductions.
Unlike traditional carbon offsets, which compensate emissions through projects outside a company’s operations, carbon insets represent reductions achieved within the supply chain itself. In this case, the emissions savings are generated through the use of lower-carbon fuels in maritime transport operations.

The European trial builds on a similar initiative introduced at DP World’s U.K. ports of Southampton and London Gateway in 2025. That program processed more than 250,000 TEUs and issued over 9,000 tonnes of carbon inset credits, reflecting growing demand from companies seeking ways to address shipping-related emissions.
The program will also include sustainability training designed to help customers better understand their logistics emissions and identify ways to reduce them.
The launch comes as DP World expands its freight forwarding operations in Scandinavia, opening new offices in Stockholm and Gothenburg and aiming to shift up to 25% of shipments in Sweden to rail or sea during the first year to cut road transport emissions.
The trial forms part of DP World’s broader strategy to support lower-carbon logistics while working toward its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
