DNV Inspection, the independent assurance and risk management specialist, has been appointed to provide quality assurance for two of the UK ’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments.

Under new three-year agreements, the company will deliver site inspections, quality control, and on-the-ground support for Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), both based in North East England.

The work includes verifying that equipment and materials meet strict industry specifications as the projects move from construction into operation.

Building the East Coast’s low-carbon infrastructure

NEP — a joint venture between bp, Equinor, and TotalEnergies — is developing the pipelines and offshore facilities needed to transport captured CO2 from Teesside and Humber projects, known collectively as the East Coast Cluster, to secure storage sites beneath the North Sea.

NZT Power, meanwhile, is a bp–Equinor joint venture aiming to become the world’s first gas-fired power station with integrated carbon capture.

Once operational, its combined cycle gas turbine plant could deliver up to 742 megawatts of low-carbon, dispatchable electricity — enough to meet the average annual needs of over 1 million UK homes.

“These CCS projects are critical not only for achieving the UK’s net zero targets, but also for unlocking local employment opportunities in the Teesside area and beyond,” Mariagrazia Silva, Regional Operations Manager Europe at DNV Inspection.

Mohamed Houari, Global Managing Director of DNV Inspection, added: “Since we formally entered the low-carbon energy market in 2021, we have rapidly expanded our capabilities to support the energy transition, and these contracts reflect the trust that major industry players are placing in DNV to help future-proof the infrastructure underpinning net zero.”
