Deep Sky has delivered the first certified direct air capture (DAC) credits in North America from its Deep Sky Alpha facility in Alberta, Canada.
Following an independent verification, the pioneering credits were certified under Isometric’s Direct Air Capture Protocol, which requires all project emissions to be accounted for when calculating net CO2 removal and long-term monitoring to confirm safe and permanent storage.
As Isometric is the first certifier approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) to issue DAC credits with the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label, Deep Sky’s credits are also the world’s first CCP-labeled DAC carbon removal credits.
This milestone certification marks Isometric’s first issuance of DAC credits. “For the first time, DAC in North America has been rigorously certified, producing the world’s first CCP-labeled certificates in the pathway,” said Isometric CEO Eamon Jubbawy.
“It’s a critical proof point for the technology’s practical potential. Passing this first hurdle opens the door to larger, more frequent issuances and, most importantly, scale,” he added.
Deep Sky will deliver the DAC credits to Microsoft and Royal Bank of Canada as part of a multi-year carbon dioxide removal (CDR) purchase agreement that runs through 2034.
The Canada-based CDR trailblazer announced the design of its Deep Sky Alpha plant towards the end of 2024 and successfully progressed to commissioning by the summer of 2025.
Within 18 months of construction launch, the plant injected its first tonnes of atmospheric CO2 for permanent storage underground and has now generated the first verified DAC credits in North America.

This notable track record has attracted a number of high-profile partnerships, including agreements signed between Deep Sky and TD Bank, Lufthansa Group, ENGIE, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.
These efforts support Deep Sky’s mission of positioning Canada as a global leader in durable carbon removal.
Commenting on the milestone credit issuance, Deep Sky CEO Alex Petre shared, “Today, we’re adding another proof point before ongoing commercial operations: North America’s first certified DAC carbon removal credits. This has always been our approach: build, prove, deliver, and now we will scale.”
