CUR8 has received a strategic investment from Acario Innovation—the corporate venture arm of Tokyo Gas, which is the largest city gas supplier in Japan and a diversified electric utility.

As a leading provider of market intelligence and due diligence for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects, CUR8 will use this financial boost to expand its risk and data infrastructure and strengthen its commercial-scale debt financing support for CO2 removals globally.

This investment highlights the need for comprehensive risk and scientific modeling, which will enable a CDR scale-up from pilots to portfolios. CUR8 provides exactly these services through its platform, which is designed to back a rapidly expanding carbon removal market that experienced a 3x growth in 2025 alone, exceeding $11bn of spending.

The CUR8 platform serves as a central data layer when it comes to CDR purchasing, financing, and delivery, acting as a vital tool, particularly in the current “pre-compliance” phase of removals.

By combining an expert due diligence process built on more than 100 data points with ongoing risk monitoring, CUR8 provides ‘investment grade’ data to inform the financing and purchasing of CDR credits.

This professional and in-depth approach has already attracted major clients, including multinational banks like Standard Chartered and leading brands like British Airways.

As more countries around the globe consider including removals in national ETS, large emitters, such as utilities and large industrial players, will need access to high-integrity, durable, and transparent risk assessments to grow their CDR portfolios. CUR8 has the capacity to answer this need through precise risk insights that help the market distinguish high-quality from low-quality CDR supply.

Commenting on the strategic investment from Acario, CUR8 CEO and co-founder Marta Krupinska said, “To scale carbon removal to gigatonne levels, we need to move beyond early-stage equity and unlock commercial-scale debt. That requires rigorous, reliable data. This investment validates our approach to building the risk infrastructure that allows capital to flow securely to the most promising removal technologies.”

Acario recognizes the importance of high-integrity removals for future energy and climate systems and the vital role of CUR8’s work for CDR development.

In a broader perspective, by 2030, Tokyo Gas aims to achieve a CO2 reduction contribution of 17 million tons as part of its Compass 2030 plan, working on achieving net zero by 2050.
