Carbon removal procurement platform Climate Vault Solutions has selected Cowboy Clean Fuels (CCF) to join its curated portfolio of CO2 removal suppliers following a rigorous and demanding selection process.
As shared in the announcement, CCF’s Triangle Unit project is the first biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) project to meet the meticulous standards of the Climate Vault nonprofit Technology Experts Chamber (“Tech Chamber”), which selects projects fit for the portfolio.
Located in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin, the Triangle Unit project injects sugar beet molasses into deep coalbed methane formations.
Once injected, the material is exposed to natural microbial activity that converts the feedstock into stored CO2 and renewable natural gas (RNG), enabling both durable geologic storage and low-carbon energy production.
The BiCRS+RNG Triangle Unit initiative is one of only six projects approved so far by the Tech Chamber across three Climate Vault Solutions procurement cycles.
Its integrated carbon removal and low-CO2 energy approach transforms legacy energy infrastructure into scalable, high-integrity carbon dioxide removal (CDR) systems with quantifiable, independently verified removal performance.
Through this partnership, Climate Vault Solutions has positioned itself as the exclusive commercialization partner that will bring Triangle Unit carbon removal credits to interested buyers via its specialized platform.
To enter the select group of suppliers in Climate Vault Solutions’ portfolio, CCF had to go through a multi-phase Request for Proposal (RFP) program, which was navigated by the Technology Experts Chamber.

Established as an independent committee of science, technology, and policy experts and chaired by former U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz, the Tech Chamber assesses projects across six key criteria: technical and economic feasibility, innovation, additionality, leakage, permanence, and public engagement and environmental equity.
When a project successfully passes this evaluation, it then undergoes an independent audit. The Tech Chamber reviews the audit outcomes, determining whether a project will join Climate Vault Solutions’ portfolio.
With its innovative BiCRS+RNG project, Cowboy Clean Fuels has successfully passed this selection process, becoming part of a CDR supplier portfolio that represents the most credible and technically validated climate solutions currently available to institutional and corporate buyers.
