In a ribbon-cutting ceremony held this week in Price, Utah, CO2 Sync officially launched a new biochar and clean energy production plant.
The ceremony was hosted by the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce (CCCC), who welcomed CO2 Sync as they embark on this inaugural project while eyeing state and nationwide expansion in the future.
Headquartered in Charleston, Utah, CO2 Sync specializes in a pyrolysis technology that processes wood waste to create carbon-dense biochar and uses the heat from this operation to generate clean energy.
By handling dead biomass, the company helps lower the risk of wildfires in the area while producing a biochar product that is used for regenerative farming.
The company uses the head released through biochar production to generate 100% clean electricity that leaves behind zero emissions.
Commenting on the milestone launch, CO2 Sync said in a publication, “This facility represents more than a new operation; it demonstrates how advanced technology can transform underutilized biomass into renewable energy and valuable biochar while supporting healthier forests, stronger rural communities, and local economic growth.”
Biochar is one of the most dynamic carbon dioxide removal (CDR) sectors, and this pathway has emerged as the most in-demand durable solution among buyers on the voluntary CO2 market.
When applied to farm soil, biochar acts like a sponge at the plant roots, helping them hold onto nutrients and useful bacteria while also tackling atmospheric CO2 emissions.

CO2 Sync has ambitious plans for the future
Talking to local media, CO2 Sync CEO Darrell Huntsman highlighted that in conventional farming, 60% to 80% of synthetic fertilizer washes off, noting the improvement that biochar unlocks by staying at the root system and holding nutrients right there.
Looking ahead, CO2 Sync will work on growing business operations in both Utah and across the United States.
The company shared, “This is just the beginning. We look forward to building on what we have started in Price and advancing scalable solutions that bring together responsible forest management, carbon removal, and reliable renewable energy.“
