Trailblazing carbon removal and DAC technology developer Climeworks has welcomed Helin Cox as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Boasting a portfolio of previous successful projects, chemical engineer Helin Cox takes the Climeworks CTO role after serving as a senior director of technology development at Honeywell UOP.
As part of the Climeworks ecosystem, Cox will be in charge of advancing the company’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, spearheading a team of 150 engineers and scientists.
Led by Cox, this team of experts will focus on deploying Climeworks’ best-performing DAC plant yet, one that, as the company puts it, will have “highest CO₂ capture and lowest energy consumption for biggest climate impact.”
This effort will include approving and advancing highest-potential filter materials, process designs, equipment, and operational strategies for DAC, putting them through rigorous tests at the world-class testing facilities developed by Climeworks.
The successful innovations and optimizations that result from this work will then be refined towards commercial readiness.
Helin Cox has a proven track record of successful commercialization of new technologies in large-scale projects on a global level. During her time at Honeywell UOP, she led the development of the company’s complete portfolio of new products, including renewable fuels, clean hydrogen, carbon capture, energy storage, and others.
With her extensive experience, having worked on global plant construction and operations with eight US patents, Cox is well-positioned to lead Climeworks on an R&D journey towards a landmark DAC deployment.

Climeworks co-founder and co-CEO Jan Wurzbacher stated, “Helin Cox has consistently driven innovation across the full spectrum of technology readiness from early R&D to commercial deployment. Her technical thoroughness, hands-on attitude, and sense of urgency, alongside her proven ability to lead large, cross-functional R&D teams, is exactly what Climeworks looks for in its leaders. We look forward to cementing our technology leadership in the DAC space with her onboard.”
