Commercial carbon removal innovator Climeworks has announced the establishment of its new headquarters in Calgary, in the province of Alberta, Canada.

The new landmark Climeworks office will be hosted at the ETC—one of Alberta’s leading hubs that brings under one roof startups, researchers, investors, and industry leaders focused on accelerating energy innovation.

Commenting on this location choice, Climeworks highlights Calgary and Alberta’s expertise in carbon management, established infrastructure, and supportive regulatory environment as the main incentives that drove this decision.

With several Climeworks representatives already operating from the ETC hub and additional local hiring expected to come in the near future, the company is set to continue its work on refining and scaling carbon removal technologies.

As a next step in Canada, Climeworks will partner with stakeholders on the ground to select a site for local cold weather testing of direct air capture (DAC) carbon removal systems.

The testing activity will build on Climeworks’ years of experience running DAC systems in cold climates like Iceland, and it will expand the company’s portfolio of deployments in different geographies and climate conditions, which also includes a DAC technology installed for exploration in the hot and arid climate of Riyadh, at the KAPSARC hub in Saudi Arabia.

Looking ahead, Climeworks expects that its mobile test facility in Calgary will launch operations and begin collecting real-time performance data by fall 2026, which will mark a key milestone towards the company’s ambitious goal of building a larger-scale commercial direct air capture plant.

In a statement, Colum Furey, Canada Country Director at Climeworks, shared excitement over the newly established headquarters in Calgary, commenting, “Alberta’s world-class carbon capture ecosystem, combined with a supportive policy framework, makes this a natural place for us to scale. Calgary, in particular, brings together the infrastructure, supply chains, and expertise we need in one place.”

The ETC, Furey shares, will give Climeworks the opportunity to collaborate closely with industry, research, and technology partners, helping the company learn faster and scale more efficiently. He adds, “That acceleration is essential as carbon removal transitions from early deployment toward global scale.”
