ClimeFi has opened a new, dual-track request for proposals (RFP) on behalf of global financial tech platform Adyen, looking to invest in new high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR) suppliers and provide early-stage support through Adyen’s 1% Fund.

Specifically, the RFP extends to two potential channels: durable carbon removal purchases and innovation grants. The initiatives selected through this call are set to receive financial backing through Adyen’s 2025 climate budget.

The 2025 RFP invites suppliers to submit proposals on either multi-year carbon credit purchases or grant support, highlighting that the chosen projects will be included in Adyen’s long-term portfolio and innovation strategy.

While the two RFP categories will be reviewed separately, suppliers may still apply to both channels, and the call also points out that cross-track synergies are encouraged.

When it comes to CDR purchases, Adyen is interested in high-integrity, permanent CO2 removal projects able to demonstrate a clear advancement towards commercial readiness, with credible delivery expected in the period between 2026 and 2030.

The call welcomes applications from around the world, working with different carbon removal approaches, except enhanced rock weathering, given Adyen’s existing activity in this sector.

In terms of eligible initiatives for grant support, Adyen will back efforts that accelerate the scale-up of durable CDR, such as innovations in measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV); early-stage technology development; and enabling infrastructure.

The grant support will be provided through Adyen’s 1% fund—a pledge that entails contributing 1% of the company’s annual net revenue, instead of a fixed amount, towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals, where Adyen’s employees have the final say on where the funds are invested.

Submissions for CDR purchases will be accepted until 21st December 2025, and proposals for grants until 13th January 2026. ClimeFi and Adyen will review the applications together, planning to announce the selected initiatives in mid-February 2026.

Selected projects will receive either a CDR purchase with a multi-year allocation for a volume ranging between 500 and 4,000 tCO2, or a grant award, depending on the track they were submitted for.
